Beairsto & Associates Engineering Ltd. (BASE) was contracted by Horizon North Manufacturing to provide the engineering support for the structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes of work for the Imperial Oil Kearl Lake camp project. The camp included 450 individual executive level dormitory rooms, each with individual bathrooms, connecting corridors, a commercial kitchen and dining room, recreation and lounge spaces, and a Transport Canada approved flight center. The entire complex is composed of premanufactured wood frame modular units on an engineered screw pile foundation. BASE provided the engineering design for all the structural components, including load calculations, pile layouts and reactions, and framing and structural reviews. Electrical engineering services included fire alarm system, electrical and light distribution, and emergency lighting. Mechanical engineering services included load calculations, air distribution, water distribution and sanitary design. BASE also performed a complete Building Code compliance review including life safety, fire safety, and egress.

- 4,200 ft2 of “Arctic” corridors to connect the units

- All required seals, drawings, and schedules for permits and occupancy
- Site visit to confirm compliance
- Entire facility is relocatable. Upon transfer to a different location, pile system is completely removable for minimum environmental impact
